Deceased Name: Dr. Gary A. Cowan Dr. Gary A. Cowan, 59, Duluth, died Wednesday, Sept. 4,
1996, in St. Luke's Hospital. He was born in Duluth. He married Ursela Oettinger in
1962. He was a Navy medical officer during the Vietnam War aboard the Turner
Joy out of Long Beach, Calif. He lived in Minneapolis for a short time and
served his residency at Fort Snelling Veterans Administration Hospital and
the University of Minnesota Medical Hospital. In 1968, he moved to Duluth to
join his father's psychiatry practice in the Medical Arts Building, where he
practiced for more than 28 years. He was a member of the Lions Club, the
American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association. His mother, Esther Cowan, died on Feb. 5, 1981. He is
survived by his wife, Ursela; two daughters, Carla Cowan of Minneapolis and
Ellie Cowan of Sacramento, Calif.; his father, Dr. George M. Cowan of
Minneapolis; and a brother, Mark Cowan of McLean, Va. Services: 1 p.m. Friday in Temple Israel in Duluth. Burial
will be in Temple Emanuel Cemetery, Duluth. Arrangements are by Johnson
Mortuary. The family prefers memorials to the Blind and Visually Handicapped
